Artistic Stetment

Connection. Trust. Presence.
My choreography is centered on physical connection as a form of communication, particularly through the use of touch, weight and shared balance. I work from instant choreography, allowing movement to blossom in the moment. I draw constant inspiration from the dancers and the artists I collaborate with. Collaboration is essential to my work. Each person brings with themselves a unique energy, perspective, and life experiences that are shaping them, and therefore shaping me and my work.
My chorographic vision is to translate personal and collective themes into an immersive reflection on human connection, presence, and the traces we leave on one another. I am deeply interested in relationships, how they are built, tested and transformed over time. Physical connection is deeply personal to me and shaped by my cultural background. I was raised in a culture where hugging friends and even strangers is a natural and essential part of communication. In contrast, in the U.S., communication has often felt more distant and formal, as if an invisible space lingers between people, holding back openness. This difference made me realize how physical connection creates warmth, trust, and openness. In my work, I use touch and partnering to close that distance, encouraging the dancers and the audience to move beyond formality and truly connect.
I explore these themes through contemporary movement, partnering and instant choreography. In my practice, partnering is made from 90% connection & trust and 10% technique, because without trust we cannot fully explore, risk, reveal our vulnerable self and have beautiful moments of shared movement. I investigate different ways to expand movement through voice, props, lights and other shared live experiences so that the work is engaging both with the performers and the audience on multiple levels.
I create work that investigates themes of individuality and unity, together and apart, and exploring the different ways connection is shaping us physically, emotionally, and socially. Through collaboration, experimentation and trust, I make dance that is not only seen, but also felt, shared, and remembered.
